INGREDIENT PLANNING

Estimate boba ingredient usage from cups sold

This free calculator estimates the demand for one ingredient by multiplying expected cups sold by the amount of that ingredient used per cup. It then scales the daily number by the days your shop is open.

Daily ingredient usage = cups per day × ingredient used per cup
Weekly ingredient usage = daily usage × open days

Worked example

If a shop expects 90 cups per day and one recipe uses 35 ml of an ingredient per cup, estimated usage is 3,150 ml per day. If the shop opens 6 days, that is 18,900 ml — or 18.9 liters — before allowing for waste, spoilage or recipe variation.

Ingredients you can estimate

Use the same method for tea base, milk, syrup, powder, toppings or other ingredients as long as the unit stays consistent. Run the calculator once per ingredient instead of mixing grams, milliliters and ounces in the same calculation.

Turn usage into an inventory decision

Usage tells you how fast an ingredient may move. To estimate when to order it again, take the daily usage result into the Inventory Reorder Point Calculator and add supplier lead time plus your own safety stock.

Common boba inventory mistakes

  • Using menu sales instead of recipe usage: different drinks may use different quantities.
  • Mixing units: convert to one unit before comparing stock with demand.
  • Ignoring waste and spoilage: actual consumption can exceed theoretical recipe usage.
  • Assuming every day is identical: weekends, promotions and seasonality can shift demand.

Boba ingredient calculator FAQ

Does the calculator include waste?

No. It estimates theoretical recipe demand. Add a separate buffer based on your actual waste, spoilage and preparation practices.

Can I calculate tapioca pearls and toppings?

Yes. Use grams or ounces per cup for solid ingredients, then keep the same unit when comparing the result with your stock.

Can this replace a full inventory sheet?

No. It is designed for a quick one-ingredient estimate. A recurring tracker is more suitable when you need multiple ingredients, purchase records, counts and waste history together.
